It’s getting harder and harder to lie about your age on Instagram. The social network is rolling out its new feature to verify the age of its users.
Smile, don’t lie, you’re on camera. Instagram has launched a new way to find out the age of its users with video selfies. Developed in collaboration with Yoti, a company specializing in online age verification, the technology determines a user’s age based on their facial expressions.
Although this new form of moderation is aimed, in particular, at seeing small users, the foundation wants to reassure users that their privacy will be respected in the process. The personal videos taken will not be kept by the social network, which says that the content will be deleted within 30 days after the analysis. The same goes for knowing your identity, which is not possible with this system, says Instagram.
The company continues: “Instagram does not use facial recognition, and we do not use it in video selfies. We use a selfie video to ensure that you are a real person, which can You confirm and review the person you are authorized to access your account.”
Although users can provide a form of ID to prove their age, for Instagram, the video selfie method helps to eliminate the use of fake documents: “The video selfie helps the prevent fake IDs and other illegal activities.” The number verification process also promises to be faster with a video selfie than an ID submission. – AFP Relaxnews
