GURUGRAM: Work on the much-awaited All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) at Majra village in Rewari is expected to begin from March next year as the Union Health Ministry has acquired 189 acres of land for the project. The remaining 14 acres of land will be handed over to the ministry in a few weeks, according to Union Minister Rao Indrajit Singh, who is also the MP from Gurugram.
The foundation stone laying ceremony of the project is expected to be held after this Gujarat Assembly Elections As per Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s schedule. Singh said a team from the Union Health Ministry had recently visited Rewari to take physical possession of the land.
The district administration of Rewari has completed the process of transfer of 189 acres out of the required 203 acres and registered the remaining 14 acres in favor of the administration, which is required for transfer to the Ministry of Health, likely to be completed in the next few weeks. “We have sought time from the Prime Minister and it is hoped that we will get time for his ground breaking ceremony Gujarat electionSingh said.
The MP added that the construction of AIIMS in Rewari would benefit a large number of people. The 22nd AIIMS in the country, it will be built at a cost of Rs 1,300 crore.
The establishment of an AIIMS in Rewari was announced several years ago but has been delayed due to land acquisition issues. At Singh’s request, Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar announced plans to bring AIIMS to Rewari at an election rally in Bawal in 2015.
In 2019, just before the Lok Sabha polls, Prime Minister Modi also announced that an AIIMS would be set up in Rewari. Initially, the institute was planned to be built at Manethi village in Rewari. However, the government faced hurdles in acquiring land there as most of the area was found to be part of the Arabali forest. Due to this the project was shifted to Majra village.
People of Rewari, Mahendragarh, Bhiwani, Rohtak, Jhajjar, Mewat, Palwal, Faridabad and parts of Rajasthan will benefit from the construction of AIIMS in Majra. The project will also create 3,000 direct and 10,000 indirect jobs.
In April 2021, the Haryana government allocated Rs 80 crore to purchase 150 acres for the project, as the government owned 60 acres of panchayat land. AIIMS Majra will have 750 beds, a medical college and a nursing college, ICU specialty, super specialty and facilities for 1,500 OPD patients per day. There will also be private wards and a trauma centre. The campus will have a night shelter for patient attendants as well as a guesthouse, 1,000-seat auditorium and dormitory and residential facilities for staff and students.
