The Assam Police on Saturday arrested a Manipur resident from Sonapur area of Kamrup (Metro) district for allegedly transporting Yaba pills. ₹According to official information, 15 mln.
According to police, over 60,000 Yaba pills were recovered from a four-wheeler coming from Meghalaya.
Acting on a tip-off, the Guwahati city police launched a search operation led by Joint Commissioner of Police Partha Sarathi Mahanta on Saturday morning. They intercepted a vehicle bearing registration number DL-7CK-8778 at Nazirahat toll gate near Sonapur, police officials said.
“The car coming from the neighboring country was carefully checked and we got 60,000 Yaba tablets from the hidden cameras of the car. The market value of the seized contraband is estimated at approx ₹15 crore,” said Partha Sarathy Mahanta.
The arrested person has been identified as Mohammad Ajmal Khan (30), a resident of Toubal district of Manipur.
Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma praised the state police for the successful raid. He shared the information on Twitter, calling it a “commendable feat.”
“The ongoing anti-narcotics drive of the Assam Police is highly appreciated. Keep going,” Sarma wrote.
Recently, several residents of other states have been arrested in Assam with drugs, cannabis and other narcotics. On October 27, two drivers were arrested in Guwahati while transporting more than 2,500 kilograms of cannabis from Manipur.
They have been identified as Ashok Kumar, a resident of Haryana and Jitendra Kumar, a resident of Uttarakhand.
The estimated value of the seized hemp was approx ₹15 million according to Partha Sarathy Mahanta.
