Hyundai has unveiled the globally popular Ioniq 5 electric crossover in India at the inauguration of its new corporate headquarters in Gurgaon. The new electric crossover is said to be launched at the 2023 Auto Expo in January. Hyundai has officially announced that bookings for the Ioniq 5 EV will start from December 20, 2022 in India.

The new Hyundai Ioniq 5 EV will come as a CBU (Completely Built Unit) and is expected to be priced around Rs 45 lakh to Rs 60 lakh. This electric crossover is designed and developed on the brand’s dedicated EV – e-GMP or Electric Global Modular Platform. For those who don’t know, Kia EV6 electric SUV Also based on e-GMP architecture. The Ioniq 5 is the first product based on this platform, which is based on the Ioniq 6.

Hyundai will use this platform to develop several new electric vehicles in our market by 2028 Not just the Ioniq 5, Hyundai will launch the updated Kona EV, Creta facelift, new Verna and a new micro SUV in 2023.

The EV-dedicated platform allows Hyundai to create more space inside the cabin. The Ioniq 5’s wheels are placed at an angle, resulting in a longer wheelbase and more cabin space. It will also eliminate any hump in the middle which further improves the comfort level for people in the middle of the second row seats.

The Hyundai Ioniq 5 EV is available with two battery sizes – 72.6kWh and 58kWh – and is offered with rear-wheel or all-wheel-drive layouts. The 72.6kWh battery version is claimed to offer a maximum range of around 470-480kms. It supports 800V battery technology, which offers super fast charging. It is compatible with 220kW DC charging, which charges the battery from 10% to 80% in just 18 minutes.

The top-spec Hyundai Ioniq 5 crossover features a dual-motor, all-wheel-drive layout that delivers a combined power of 306bhp and peak torque of 605Nm. It is claimed to achieve 0-100kmph acceleration in just 5.2 seconds before hitting a top speed of 185kmph. A 169bhp, single motor is powered by a 58kWh battery and power is sent to the crossover’s rear wheels. This variant claims to accelerate from 0 to 100kmph in just 8.5 seconds.
