Daniel Bellinger returned to the Giants’ locker room Wednesday for the first time since undergoing surgery to repair a broken bone near his left eye and was limping.
He is not sure when he will return to the football field, but he believes that this is the time.
“Oh,” he said Wednesday afternoon. “I’m really confident that I can play again this season. Just going out there and running the last couple of days feels good.

Bellinger, whose left eye is still red, said the doctor put a plate under his eye that needs to be attached to the bone before he can return. He’s still experiencing some double vision, but the doctor said that’s to be expected. There is no timetable for his return.
The freshman admitted he initially feared he might lose his eyesight with the injury just before halftime on Oct. 23 in Jacksonville.
“Oh, it’s scary,” Bellinger said. “The first time the face was still swollen, so I was afraid that it was the face. So I was afraid at first, but when I got to the hospital the doctor looked at the face and said that the face is good, and I am calm.”
He rejoined his teammates at the stadium in Jacksonville and accompanied the team on the plane home before undergoing surgery later that week.
Bellinger suffered an eye injury after a linebacker intercepted a pass from Daniel Jones and Jacksonville linebacker Devin Lloyd attempted to strip the football but instead punched Bellinger in the face.
“I felt like my eyes were going to be punched out at first, but when I realized I couldn’t open them I realized it was a lot less serious than that,” Bellinger said. “He came at me from a different angle because when he peeled the ball he got my face. It was a weird accident.”
Bellinger said Lloyd sent her an Instagram message that she liked after the incident.
“He gave a great message and thanks,” Bellinger said. “He didn’t mean it. I played him in college and I didn’t see him as a dirty player. I think he’s a good player and he apologized for it, so that’s good.”

Bellinger was in the middle of a great rookie season before the injury. He had 16 carries for 152 yards and two touchdowns in seven games and also ran for a touchdown in the team’s win over Green Bay in London.
“No luck,” Bellinger said of his rookie season. “It’s a one-in-a-million injury that I see. I have to come back stronger from there.”
When he did, he said he would wear a visor over his mask to prevent himself from having the same experience.
