Born and raised in Hartford, David Milton went from taking pictures of food for fun on Instagram to going on TikTok. Milton posts pictures and videos of his meals on social media, and his followers ask him, “Where can I get this?”

An executive at a computer company in Connecticut, he said that when he started posting on Instagram in 2019, he saw people posting what was on their plate but not from where. That’s when he came up with the idea of ​​posting videos from outside the restaurant to the food on his plate to help people find the place.

“I always take pictures and videos of new places I go around the state,” he said. “I keep hearing people say, ‘There’s no work or food in Connecticut’ and so I thought I’d post TikToks of my trip and show the world what this country can do. .”

Milton appeared on TikTok when he announced his quest to find the best bacon, eggs and cheese in the state. He tried Rosa’s Cafe and Bakery in East Hartford, Country Cow in Fairfield, Billy D’s in Shelton, Neils in Wallingford and Middletown and Take Five Cookery in Hartford. While he didn’t say who was the best in the state, he said he could see why people ordered these places. It’s been a year since Milton started his TikTok (@thedamtok) and since then he has amassed 37.6K followers and a total of 450k likes on his videos.

“I’ve done videos with Chef Van Hurd from Hell’s Kitchen, reviewed bakeries in the state by celebrity chefs and videos for Dunkin Donuts,” he said.

When doing an evaluation, Milton doesn’t go by “just a 1-10 scale system.” Instead, he uses the word “good” in Connecticut. He said he likes to highlight places he finds “high-end” as well as places people choose.

“I never gave a bad review and tried not to,” he said. “I work in the industry and I’ve seen the difficulties these areas face so I like to bring light.”

Milton has also done reviews around the country. He said some sponsors have opened doors for him such as McDonald’s for Space Jam and MGM in Springfield and Las Vegas. He has visited restaurants in Massachusetts, New York, Illinois and Georgia. He also appeared on NBC CT Live with Taylor Kinzler, sharing food events and restaurant openings during the summer.

“I’m trying to keep it for the East Coast,” he joked. “Though I sometimes get confused about Daym Drops.”
