Freeview users across the country should update their TVs and set top boxes to ensure their devices are always up to date. On Tuesday, 15 November a number of popular ITV channels were changed and affected the Freeview TV guide. Five of ITV’s channels have been rebranded, with the broadcaster’s flagship channel now known as ITV1 (instead of just ITV) while ITV 2 has become ITV2.
This adjustment to channel names also affects channels +1 and the HD version of ITV1.
You will need to adjust your Freeview device to ensure the correct channel names appear in your TV guide. All channel numbers remain the same though.
To update its users on the changes, Freeview said in an online post: “On 15 November 2022 ITV is making significant changes to its channel line-up.
“You will need to update your TV and keep your channels and TV Guide up to date.”
ITV’s rebranding to ITV1 will certainly bring back a lot of nostalgia for long-time viewers.
ITV’s main channel was called ITV1 20 years ago, and the name was changed to ITV in 2013.
The rebranding of the channels comes as the producers of Poirot Street and Coronation prepare to launch a new streaming service.
On 8 December ITV will launch ITVX, which replaces ITV Hub as a place to watch the broadcaster’s content online.
ITV has big plans for ITVX, which wants to be the “leader” in the UK broadcasting space.
And to add to these ambitions ITV is throwing the kitchen sink at the service, which will launch a wealth of new content and shake up the way ITV releases new shows.
Compared to ITV Hub, ITVX will offer thousands of hours more content – at launch more than 10,000 hours of content will be available on ITVX while ITV Hub has 4,000 hours of content.
Apart from this, in a major move to the way ITV releases new programs ITVX will debut new and exclusive shows every week before the terrestrial channels.
Upcoming shows on ITVX include The Spy Between Friends, The Confessions of Frannie Langton and Litvinenko.
Elsewhere, the full series of ITV shows set to be broadcast on terrestrial channels will be available on ITVX on the first day of broadcast, with every episode available to watch online.
ITVX will be home to an ever-changing library of blockbuster movies, with more than 250 films available to watch from launch – including the Back to the Future trilogy, while all of the Fast and Furious movies will arrive on the service next year.
You will also be able to watch high-profile events shown on ITV channels such as the Love Island finale and games from the upcoming World Cup on ITVX.
ITVX will be completely free to watch with an ad-supported plan, but a paid membership tier will also be available which removes the ads and bundles from BritBox membership.
ITV has not announced which devices ITVX will launch on, but the app should be available on all devices that currently have the ITV Hub app – meaning Android and iOS smartphones and tablets, Freeview Smart TVs and more.

ITVX is powered by premium, budget-first delivery , and an integrated technology and data platform that provides a higher quality, and more intuitive user and marketing experience, will continue to evolve in 2023 and beyond.”
