Doodle for Google: Google celebrates Children's Day with artwork by 2022 Doodle Contest winner Shlok Mukherjee

India is celebrating Children’s Day today. And the tech giant, Google has come up with the best way to spread cheer on this occasion. The tech behemoth kicked off its Children’s Day celebrations by announcing the winners of its Doodle for Google contest.

Kolkata’s Shlok Mukherjee wins India’s coveted competition. The young boy’s doodle reflects his hope for India’s progress in terms of science and technology. According to Google, there were over 115,000 entries from children from classes 1 to 10 from over 100 cities in India. Students were expected to create doodles on the theme ‘In the next 25 years, my India will be…’.

Google said in its official release that it is gratifying to see students unleash their creativity. Themes like technological advancement and sustainability were artistically expressed by children in their doodles

“We are thrilled to announce the national winner of India’s Doodle for this year’s Google competition: Shlok Mukherjee of Delhi Public School, Newtown, Kolkata, with his thoughtful and inspiring doodle titled, “India at Center Stage,” read Google’s release.

Shlok writes that in the next 25 years, scientists in India will develop eco-friendly robots for the betterment of humanity. He wrote that India will have regular interstellar travel from Earth to space and that India will make further progress in Yoga and Ayurveda in the coming years.

Google will feature the verse doodle for 24 hours on November 14, 2022. Judges for the Doodle for Google panel included actor Neena Gupta, Tinkle Comics editor-in-chief Kyriakos Vaisian, and YouTube creators Slaypoint, artist and entrepreneur Alika Bhatt.

Judges selected 20 finalists from across the country based on artistic merit, creativity, alignment with the theme and contestants’ innovative approach. Kankala Srinika, Sri Prakash Vidyaniketan, Visakhapatnam won the group 1-2 category, while Divyanshi Singhal, Delhi Public School, Gurgaon, won the competition in the group 5-6 category. Pihu Kachap, SGBM School, Ranchi won the group 7-8 category and Puppala Indira Janhvi, Sri Prakash Vidyaniketan, Visakhapatnam won the 9-10 group.

Children’s Day is celebrated every year to commemorate the birth anniversary of the first Prime Minister of India, Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru. Also known as Chacha Nehru, the first Prime Minister of independent India loved children. The day is also celebrated to recognize the needs of children and protect their rights. The former Prime Minister believed that children play a key role in shaping the future of the nation.
