Madhya Pradesh Paschim Kshetra Vidyut Vitran Company has launched a drive to take action against those who do not pay their electricity bills. The company seized refrigerators, TVs, coolers and heaters, and other electronic items from seven houses in Ujjain on Sunday. These things will now be attached, said Aaj Tak.
Rajesh Harod, managing engineer of the power company, said that people have not been paying their electricity bills for the past few years. Most of them have outstanding debts of up to Rs 90,000, he added. To deal with the issue of non-payment of debts, the company has now started confiscating electrical goods from such people.
Meanwhile, the electricity department is also looking to seal some houses. According to Harod, the unpaid electricity bill amounts will be returned to the confiscated items.
He also said that a total of Rs 1.70 crore was due to the power company against 200 people who were issued attachment notices, of which 70 had deposited money.
