Dinesh Karthik sent cricket fans into a frenzy with a cryptic Instagram post on Wednesday. Karthik’s story soon became the headlines and there were speculations about the Tamil Nadu born cricketer dropping a big sign of his retirement. Karthik wrote about how amazing it was to play for India in the T20 World Cup in Australia as he lamented the team’s exit from the final.

“World Cup for India and very proud to do so… we failed in the main event, but my life was filled with many memories to remember. I am very thankful to my teammates, coaches, friends and a big thank you to the fans for the unwavering support. #DreamsDoComeTrue #T20WorldCup,” Karthik wrote in the caption.

He shared a video of his trip to Australia. Apart from his time on stage, the video also featured Karthik’s friends and family members.

Team India’s T20 World Cup tour ended in the semi-finals after the Rohit Sharma-led team was defeated by champions England. The T20 World Cup didn’t really work out for Karthik. The Indian team management trusted Karthik’s performance to complete and selected him in the starting XI ahead of Rishabh Pant. The Indian team’s plans did not materialize as Karthik did not shine in the T20 World Cup.

In the opening match of the T20 World Cup, Karthik managed to score just one run against arch-rivals Pakistan at the Melbourne Cricket Ground. There was no change in Karthik’s performance after the 37-year-old was dismissed for just six runs against South Africa. Karthik played his last T20 World Cup match against Bangladesh and scored just seven runs in that match.

So far, Karthik has played 60 matches for India in T20I cricket and has scored 686 runs and one half-century. In ODIs, Karthik has worn the Indian jersey 94 times. Karthik has 1752 runs under his belt in the fifty-over format. He has so far registered nine half-centuries in ODIs.

In Tests, Karthik has played 26 matches so far and has scored 1025 runs. Karthik has one and a half centuries to his name in Tests.
