Mumbai, November 26 (IANS) The film festival ‘Dilip Kumar Hero of Heroes’, which will showcase the ‘Tragedy King’s’ milestone films like ‘Aan’, ‘Devdas’, ‘Ram Or Shyam’ and ‘Shakti’, will be held on December 10 and 11.
With a career spanning five decades, Mohammed Yusuf Khan, popularly known as Dilip Kumar, has ruled the silver screen with his work earning him the title of ‘Abhinaya Samrat’ (King of Acting).
The actor first tasted success the year India gained independence – 1947, and steadily built on his success over the next few decades, courtesy films like ‘Andaz’, ‘An’, ‘Daag’, ‘Devdas’, ‘Azaad’, ‘ Naya Daur, ‘Madhumati’, ‘Paygham’, ‘Gunga Jumna’, ‘Ram Aur Shyam’ and the epic ‘Mughal-e-Azam’.
The festival will cover more than 30 cinema halls across 20 cities in India and will honor screen legends through its showcase. The festival is organized by Film Heritage Foundation.
Speaking about the showcase, Saira Banu said: “I am delighted that the Film Heritage Foundation is celebrating Dilip Sahib’s 100th birthday on December 11 this year by screening some of his most popular films in cinemas across India. They could not have made a better choice. India’s greatest. Title to commemorate the actor – Dilip Kumar: Hero of Heroes. He has been my favorite hero ever since I first saw him in Technicolor ‘Un’ when I was 12. It will be a joy to see him again on the big screen, larger than life, as he is. I had in my life.”
Earlier the Film Heritage Foundation, which is dedicated to helping preserve, preserve and restore moving images and is a member of the International Federation of Film Archives, organized a special film festival dedicated to veteran megastar Amitabh Bachchan, who is also their cause ambassador.

Dilip Kumar was the first actor to introduce the method acting process which traces its roots to theater practitioner Konstantin Stanislavsky’s ‘The System’.
Further praising Dilip Kumar, Big B called him his idol: “Dilip Kumar was and is my idol. I am yet to meet an actor who has matched his flawless acting, his flawless dialogue and the intelligence and commitment he brings to his craft. Matches him. Every word he uttered was poetry and when he appeared on screen, everything else was a blur. I was lucky enough to share the screen with him just once and I will cherish that experience.”
He also mentioned: “I am deeply saddened to hear that many of his films are not in a condition to be screened in cinemas and it is a tragedy. The Film Heritage Foundation is working day and night to ensure that the works of legends like Dilip Kumar survive and are preserved to be shown to new generations of audiences. And restored. I would like to thank Ajay Beazley and the PVR Cinemas team for making it possible to bring the classic movie back to the big screen.”
Visitors to cities like Mumbai, Delhi, Gurgaon, Noida, Pune, Bareilly, Kanpur, Varanasi, Allahabad, Raipur, Indore, Surat, Ahmedabad, Kolkata, Bangalore and Hyderabad will get a first-hand experience of witnessing the sheer magnetism and versatility. One of the greatest actors in Indian cinema on the big screen with four landmark films in two days.
Ulga Nayagan Kamal Haasan noted that the legendary actor paved the way for Indian actors with his craft: “Yusuf Sahab has set an international bar for Indian actors to follow. The Advisory Council of the Film Heritage Foundation consists of eminent personalities like Shyam Benegal, Kamal Haasan, Girish Kasarvalli, Gulzar, Gian Luca Farinelli, Jaya Bachchan, Janusir Krjist, Mark Cousin and Kumar Shahani.
