Disney filed a patent for a roller coaster that bounces off a track.
On November 13, 2022, the Instagram account for @wealth posted a picture that read, “Disney Files Patent for Roller Coaster that Jumps Track.” However, this headline comes from a website that publishes disparaging comments about Disney theme parks. We received a question about this post from a reader’s email.
‘The War Will Be Closed’
The @wealth account has no hashtags or other notes that suggest the post was meant to be satire or parody. This has led some users to post what they believe to be true.
One user commented, “What?? Wind variations, body weight, losing track by 1/4 inch would kill everyone on that ride!” Another person replied, “Think about the weight distribution error… Disney is trying to lower the stock price even more than that.” A third commenter said, “A large number of rides at Disneyland broke down this week. Please fix your current rides before you focus on a new one.”
In two other examples of comments people believed to be true, one said, “It’s not good for the mentally ill. This is stupid. The park will be shut down.” Another person posted, “Too many variables… body weight and weather conditions.
In addition to these users, others have a more humorous approach. One person referred to a classic computer game that allowed players to design roller coasters and said, “I made this in RollerCoaster Tycoon. Cut a flag.” Some compared it to the movie “Endgame 3,” which included a roller coaster crash.
Note: In the bio for the Instagram account @wealth, it says it specializes in blogs about business, motivation, and technology, and claims to be the “World’s #1 Self Development & Business Blog!” Other posts on the account featured interesting and business-related content, as well as other types of content.
The Mouse Trap
A quick Google search revealed that “Disney Files Patent for Roller Coaster that Jumps Track” first appeared on a satirical website called The Mouse Trap on mousetrapnews.com. The website was named in honor of Mickey Mouse, with its humorous slogan, “The Moused Trusted Name in News.”
We’ve previously reported on other hilarious articles from the fun-filled website, including news that Disney World will be removing Cinderella Castle, lowering the drinking age to 18, and canceling at the new Splash Mountain event.
The Mouseketeer published their article on the roller on October 30. Some of the information is as follows:
Walt Disney Imagineering (WDI) just filed a patent for a roller coaster that bounces off a track. Basically the rollercoaster flies in the air during the ride, there is no track underneath. The classic video game Thrillville: Off the Rails features a roller coaster that jumps down the track on the game’s cover. It was a crazy idea that no one thought was possible, but now Disney is trying to make that dream come true.
On the website’s “About” page, it featured a disclaimer that said, “The Mousetrap is the world’s best comedy site.” The disclaimer also stated that the website focused on the Disney Parks for “fun.”

The @wealth Instagram later released two posts to update its followers on the news. One comment, “Update: They’ve filed the patent just to protect the idea if they decide to do it. This doesn’t mean they’ll build it fast!”
A second comment said, “Note: The photos are not a true representation of what the ride will look like, but what it looks like.”
Both of these stories come from a mock article on The Mouse Trap’s website, again, not a real story.
