December Google Play System Updates: Digital Driver’s License | Tech Reddy

[ad_1]

Google’s December Play system updates are preparing a beta test for storing your digital driver’s license in your Android phone’s Wallet app, while preparing for next year’s Pixel Tablet.

Google rolls out Android security updates every month to keep your phone secure and bring new features, but these aren’t the only ways to improve. Most recently, Google called the trio the “Google System” and put a heavy emphasis on Play Services, the Play Store, and updates to Android’s Play system. Each month, Google outlines what’s new in these three areas and offers a sneak peek of the new features for the month ahead.

The easiest way to check if you need to update Google Play Services on your phone is to go directly to the app’s Play Store listing and update it there if you can. To update the Play Store, tap your avatar in the corner, then tap Settings. In the “About” section, you will see the option “Update Play Store”. Meanwhile, Google Play system updates can be found through the Settings app under About phone > Android version > Google Play system update.

In the first batch of Google’s December system updates — coming before the new month begins — we learn that Google Wallet is preparing a beta test to keep your driver’s license safe on Android phones. For now, Google Wallet’s digital driver’s license beta is limited to the United States, and even then, only “select” states are supported.

There’s no word yet on which states are included in the test or how to sign up for the beta test when it launches. The beta test may only be available to those who have signed up for the beta version of Play Services through the Play Store.

Meanwhile, the same Play Services update included additional preparations for the Pixel Tablet. A particular Pixel Tablet feature we’re noticing is the ability to get “External Screen Casts” just like any other Chromecast or Nest Hub. However, the Pixel tablet doesn’t seem to be as always Be prepared to accept an incoming External Screen, and you will now receive some warning if you need to “interact” with the tablet before the External Screen.

Note that Nearby Sharing should also work a little faster to find your friends’ devices after this update.
