After seven years of legal wrangling, the construction of the second arm of the Madakulam – TVS Nagar flyover to Jaihindpuram began on Friday.

Finance minister Palanivel Thiaga Rajan inaugurated the ₹ 16.62-crore project to build the 251-metre arm. The construction of the Flyover connecting Madakulam and TVS Nagar was completed in 2015.

However, the construction of the second arm road to Jaihindpuram was not taken up as some residents of Jaihindpuram moved the court for land acquisition. As a result, the work, after four of the 12 constructions, was stopped.

After settling the legal battle, NABARD and the Rural Roads Wing of the State Highways acquired 1,357 square meters of land to build the arm and a 105 meter access road. Besides, service roads on both sides will be laid for 320 meters.

In order to create two-way traffic on the TVS Nagar arm and the Jaihindpuram arm, the work to improve connectivity will be taken up between the bridges. The connectivity improvement work will also be taken up on the Madakulam side for smooth traffic flow.

The project is expected to be completed in 18 months. Once the second arm is constructed, traffic from Madakulam can directly reach the airport road without any disruption.

Mayor Indirani Ponvasanth, Corporation Commissioner Simranjeet Singh Kahlon, Superintending Engineer (NABARD and Rural Roads Division) Member of Parliament Vijayalakshmi, Divisional Engineer Mohana Gandhi, Assistant Divisional Engineer R. Sukumar and Assistant Engineer M. Balaji was there.
