NEW DELHI: 5G tablet shipments in India grew by 61% in Q3 (QoQ), outperforming the overall market which saw a 22% increase in shipments ahead of the festive season. A report from CyberMedia Research (CMR) was released on Monday.

“5G tablet shipments picked up in Q3 2022, driven by recent 5G auctions and the start of the 5G era. The growth in 5G tablets is in line with trends seen in the 5G smartphone market,” said Menka Kumari, Analyst-Industry Intelligence Group (IIG), CMR .

Samsung grew the fastest at 83% sequentially and gained 28% market share, followed by Lenovo with 21% growth while its market share remained unchanged at 26%. In contrast, Apple’s shipments rose 26% and the iPhone maker gained 19% market share in the September quarter, according to CMR data.

Homegrown Lava fell 14% over the same period, which saw its market share fall from 18% in Q2 to 13% in Q3.

South Korean phone maker Samsung’s shipments fell 0.8% in the third quarter compared to the same period last year. Conversely, Chinese brands Vivo (-19.5%), Realme (-18.1%) and Xiaomi (-18%) had the steepest declines, while Oppo was the only brand to grow by 6.1% in the quarter. IDC data showed.

According to CMR, the 4G tablet market grew by 9% in Q3, while the WiFi tablet market grew by 41% during the same period. In terms of price, the premium tablet segment (> Rs 20,000) grew by 44% in the third quarter.

CMR predicted that tablet PC shipments will grow by 10-15% in 2022.

“Driving from consumer and enterprise demand for hybrid computing, tablet PC shipments will increase significantly in the coming holiday quarter. We expect tablet shipments to grow due to attractive and aggressive offers and discounts,” said Menka.

The research firm expects 5G-enabled tablets to grow the overall tablet market, particularly in the education, healthcare, hospitality and manufacturing segments.
