New Delhi, November 25: Sikkim Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang today met Union Minister for Tourism, Culture and Development of North Eastern Region G Kishan Reddy at Vigyan Bhavan in New Delhi.

CM Tamang thanked Union Ministers and Union Council of Ministers for approving Prime Minister’s Development Initiative for North East (PM-DevINE). He also informed about the amount earmarked as gap fund for design, supply, installation, testing and commissioning of passenger ropeway system from Peling to Sanga-Chowling in West Sikkim and passenger ropeway from Thapar to Valdhunga in South Sikkim. He added that the projects have been recommended by the state level empowered committee, and the DPRT has been submitted to the Ministry of DoNER.

Talking about the proposals submitted to the Ministry, he sought the Union Minister’s consideration and support for construction of Tagore Cultural Centre, Bhutia Tagore Cultural Center for Toy Museum and Cultural Lab and Youth Culture and Conference Center near Pakyong Airport. Apart from this, the Chief Minister added that the State Government will forward some of the proposals recommended by the 15 Finance Commission under State Specific Schemes for Sikkim and request the Union Minister for his consideration.

Highlighting the shock faced by the tourism sector due to the sudden suspension of flights from the greenfield airport located at Pakyong, he requested the Union Minister to take it up with the concerned ministry to resume flight operations. He also sought the ministry’s support to increase the frequency of flights from Bagdogra to Guwahati which would help pilgrims from Sikkim and neighboring states to visit the Kamakhya temple and also boost inter-state tourism in the north.
