Gurgaon: The city on Thursday reported the season’s lowest minimum temperature of 10.2 degrees Celsius, a notch above normal. The previous day it was 10.3 degrees Celsius. The same night temperature was also recorded on November 19. Meanwhile, the Air Quality Index (AQI) was ‘poor’ at 216 compared to 212 the previous day. Delhi-NCR had 2% of straw burning in PM2.5.
The minimum temperature has been around 10-11 degrees Celsius for the past one week. According to India Meteorological Department (IMD), dry and cold northwesterly winds are prevailing over the region, keeping minimum temperatures low, while clear skies and ample sunshine are making days warm and comfortable. In the next three days, the minimum temperature in the city may drop slightly, it said.
“We do not expect any sudden drop in temperature, but there may be a gradual downward trend over the next three days. The minimum temperature is expected to be around 8-10 degrees in the coming days,” said IMD Chandigarh Director Manmohan Singh. The maximum temperature on Thursday was 26.3 degrees Celsius, close to normal for this time of the year. A day ago it was 26.6 degrees Celsius.
Friday will be mostly sunny with minimum and maximum temperatures expected to hover around 10 and 27 degrees respectively.
Delhi’s night temperature at Safdarjung on Thursday was 8.4 degrees Celsius, three degrees below normal. At 8.2 degrees Celsius, Lodhi Road was the coldest station. Safdarjung recorded a maximum temperature of 27.4 degrees Celsius.
Meanwhile, Gurgaon’s air quality is likely to remain at the lower end of the ‘poor’ category or ‘moderate’ due to favorable weather conditions during the next three days, according to the HSPCB. While Sector 51 (AQI of 271) and Teri Village (216) recorded ‘bad’ air on Thursday, it was ‘moderate’ at Vikas Sadan (175). AQI could not be calculated at Golpahari due to insufficient data.
In Delhi, however, air quality is likely to be ‘very poor’ on Friday, with wind speed forecast to drop. Thursday’s AQI was 213 (Poor). Satellites detected 66 paddy residue burning incidents in Punjab, 32 in Haryana and 195 in Uttar Pradesh on Thursday.
