Takeoff died on November 1 after being attacked outside a Houston bowling alley where he was attending a party with his uncle and fellow Migos star Quavo. The cause of death was determined to be “an entrapment of the head and a light in the arm,” according to the Harris County Medical Examiner’s office. He is 28 years old.
Cardi B has a close relationship with Takeoff – she collaborated with him on several hit songs and is married to her cousin and fellow Migos rapper Offest. After his death, Cardi wrote about her heartbreak in an Instagram post:
“Taking your sudden death has brought so much pain and sadness to so many lives,” Cardi wrote. “You had a great impact on this world and we have had a hard time coming to terms with this tragedy. I am saddened but thankful for the precious memories we have had you here with us. This is a nightmare and the pain is incomparable.
He went on to say that Offset and Quavo are going through this terrible pain. “Brothers are heartbroken and I pray that you give Offset, Quavo, and your friends and family the strength to carry on as they try to deal with this loss.”
Cardi went on to describe how it hurts her as a close friend, but also as a fan. “As a Migos fan it hurts me to look at the pictures and videos of you all and hear the songs that changed the music industry and moved the culture and lit up the clubs 🔥. It hurts because I know it won’t be the same again—but I know for all of your brothers and fans the world will never forget the impact you made. I will always remember your amazing talent and situation donkey donkey. I pray that you are in peace in paradise because you deserve every part. I know that God has opened the doors of heaven for you with a warm embrace. Stop the TakeOff power 🚀💔I love you again 4L & beyond.”
Quavo also shared a lengthy Instagram tribute to his nephew, reminiscing about his fondest memories of Takeoff and concluding that the rapper is an angel to everyone who knows him.
