One minute he’s asking the Prime Minister tough questions, the next he and his partner are tackling a busy household with the help of whānau.

And Mike Sherman’s career is about to get even busier.

1 News deputy political editor and chairman of the Press Gallery and partner, scaffolder Anaru MacDougall, about to add a sixth child to their offspring.

“I’ve handled four kids during my time in the media gallery and I’ve definitely noticed an improvement over time,” Sherman told Spy.

“This place is definitely very family-friendly – ​​from the parents’ room to the playground at the front.”

The parents’ room at Parliament has books and toys, a baby changing table, a portable cot, beds, two bathrooms. It also has a small separate room where Sherman says he can express milk when he gets back to work.

Sherman, 34, says timing is everything when it comes to planning for her children.

“Covering politics as long as I have, you’re going to plan your kids during summer break. Our last child was therefore also born at the beginning of December, at the time when this next child will be born.”

With her fifth child, she returned to work eight weeks later, covering the Waitangi memorials.

“It was really special as Anaru and the baby were traveling with me, so we will always have those memories to look back on,” he said.

“This time I’m looking forward to taking six months off and being able to really enjoy this time. You’d think this would be our last child after all, though you never say never!”

TVNZ introduced a new policy this year where the company will add maternity pay to your regular salary, which Sherman says is a game changer. Spy also revealed last week that his partner, 1 News business correspondent Katie Bradford, is expecting her first child.

Sherman says she wants to come back before the General Election in the second half of next year and didn’t want to have a huge age gap between her fifth child and her new baby.

Sherman and MacDougall celebrated whānau during Labor Week with a gender reveal and are excited to have a kōtiro (daughter) to match their family numbers – three boys and three girls.

How do they balance it all? Sherman says they are at a point now where they have their way down.

“I can pack a child’s bag like a trained athlete packs a big game. “You take what you need to succeed,” Sherman said.

“Anaru wakes up and leaves early each day. So, I am lucky to have his parents come every morning to help me prepare the children for the day. They are there even when the children come home after school.”

“Anaru is an only child, so we have a daughter and koro with us, which any parent would say to you is a godsend.”

At the weekend you can often see a young family walking around Wellington’s Basin Reserve with two prams. Running for the past two years has given the couple additional power to control the organization.

“Now we’re going to have to add one to the mix. “I’m looking forward to getting back into running,” Sherman said.

The couple’s hopes and dreams for their tamarisk is for them to grow up knowing that they are loved.

He says: “We can fight against injustice all over the world together.”

The noise of pitter-patter is also on the way soon with an influx of A-listers from the worlds of sports, dance and influence.

All Black Beauden Barrett and wife and Influencer Hannah will soon welcome their 2-year-old daughter Billie Rose. Barrett held her baby shower last weekend in the company of good friend Brianna Berry. The couple named the celebration after the baby shower.

Barrett had a busy week. On Tuesday night she looked radiant as she posed for a photo at the opening of the brand’s new Newmarket store on Teed Street. On Thursday, she enjoyed a night out and attended pop superstar Dua Lipa’s concert at the Spark Arena.

Black Tim Seifert announced on Instagram that he and his wife Morgan were expecting their first child.

“Baby Seifert is on the way!” Seifert posted along a selection of photos of the couple holding scans of their children.

The wicketkeeper proposed to Morgan, who runs his own wedding business, in November 2020 in a 24-hour window between two Twenty20 matches. The couple married in July last year at Takapoto Estate in Waikato.

Super dancer Kaea Pearce and partner, league player Boden Thompson are adding to their brood.

The twins, son Reinus and sister Blossom will have a little brother before Christmas.

Last week Pearce, who has danced with the likes of Rihanna and Justin Bieber, posted a professional photo of herself in a black dress revealing her baby bump and twins on Instagram, captioning it: “Kia Ora Pēpi #7Months.”

The family is based in Leeds where Thompson, who recently visited home in NZ, plays for Leeds Rhinos and Pearce teaches dance. This week Pearce showed her 250,000 followers photos of the baby in Paris, where she was part of a dance camp.

The Hits presenter Megan Papas and husband Andrew recently welcomed little sister Aiya with their 1-year-old son Bastian.

“My little darling, Mommy loves you so much, thank you for completing our little family with your beautiful presence,” Papas wrote on Instagram this week.

Last week, former All Black Julian Savea and his wife Fatima welcomed their third child, a boy named Malik, Savea’s brother All Black Ardie and his wife Saskia also recently welcomed their third child – also a boy – named Kove.
