Vegan Burmese restaurant chain Burma Burma & Tea Room has raised over $2 million in a seed funding round led by Mumbai-based Negen Capital. The round also saw the participation of Bbigplus Polly and other angels.

Burma Burma Restaurant And T Room was founded by Ankit Gupta and Chirag Chhaj. It was established to introduce Burmese cuisine, offering the authentic flavors and cuisine of Myanmar and providing a window into its culture.

“I grew up eating the Burmese dishes we serve at Burma Burma, as my mother learned these recipes while growing up in Burma before her migration in the 1960s,” says Ankit Gupta, co-founder of Burma Burma.

The restaurant was started by the duo in Mumbai in 2014. The duo has opened seven outlets in the last nine years across Mumbai, Delhi, Noida, Gurgaon, Bangalore and Kolkata. With this funding, the company plans to open eight new outlets in the next fifteen months, taking the total to fourteen outlets.

“Over nine years in this business, we have thoroughly examined four regions of the Indian market for Burmese food in six cities across India. With this round, we are committed to entering new cities and expanding our base in existing cities,” said Chirag Chhajer, Co-Founder, Burma Burma.

“With our 450+ member strong team, our next goal is to take Burma Burma beyond India; We are now more prepared than ever,” Chhajer added.

Apart from a restaurant, it also sells two Burma Burma Pantry Products across the country. The retail products were launched in May 2022 and are sold through the company’s e-commerce website.

“Burma is perfect for a fund like Burma Negen Capital. Niche, profitable and a very strong brand name, we believe in India’s food sector and its growth trajectory. We are very confident that Burma Burma will be able to scale further with our growth capital,” said Jigar ShahDirector, Negan Capital.
