How much can I save on TV this Black Friday?

As the main shopping event of the year, Black Friday throws up all-time low prices on a huge number of product categories and TVs are always on sale. Since many TVs start life at high prices, Black Friday discounts can result in savings of hundreds of pounds.

TVs from last year’s cycle, in this case 2021, often see bigger discounts than those released this year. And since TV technology doesn’t always come in leaps and bounds in a 12-month period (although there are exceptions), older models often make the best value propositions on Black Friday sales.

Another thing worth mentioning is that sellers will always try and tempt you by selling more money on the RRP of the TV. While it was said that the TV would launch at that price, it is unlikely to stay there for more than a few months. This means that, in reality, the savings you make are much smaller than the seller would like you to believe.

We’ve included RRPs for a selection of TVs below, but when we list TV deals, we’ll always try to quote the most recent prices, the average price over a period and the lowest set price.

What’s the best TV buy on Black Friday?

Samsung S95B | RRP: £1,399 (55in)

As our favorite TV of the year and the award-winning Tech Product of the Year, it’s safe to say we’re big fans of the Samsung S95B. It’s the South Korean company’s first OLED television in just over a decade, incorporating a quantum-dot layer into its OLED panel for a high-quality 4K picture. Its 120hz refresh rate makes it the top choice for gamers, while features such as filmmaker mode – which aims to deliver images exactly as the creator intended – ensure a first-class home cinema experience.

It’s our pick of what’s on the market right now and we’ve seen it drop by $200 already this year, so there could be even bigger savings during the Black Friday sales.

LG C2 | RRP: £1,400 (42in)

Our next pick of awesome TVs from 2022 is the LG C2. The C1 model was in our world TV selection for 2021 and the range is exceptional, producing clear SDR and HDR content. It produces bright images with its evo OLED panel in the 55in and larger models, it does everything you could want from a TV – and was the main winner of our TV awards 2022 – while those after a smaller package will be happy to see the 42in. An OLED model is added to the list.

That 42in model is already down to $950 at select retailers, and we’re expecting even more reductions on various screen sizes in the coming weeks.

Sony A80J | RRP: £1,299 (55in)

The Sony A80J is the middle choice in the OLED range, and, as part of Sony’s 2021 TV lineup, it’s ripe for a Black Friday deal. We described it as “first round” in our full review earlier this year, and the OLED panel brings screen uniformity and clarity, vivid colors and excellent audio quality out of the box thanks to Sony Acoustic Surface Audio + technology. . Google TV’s operating system makes it easy to use, Chromecast and Google Assistant are both built in, and there’s support for a range of HDR formats, including Dolby Vision and IMAX Enhanced.

We have a feeling this one could be going for a fun discount this Black Friday considering the 55in model recently saw its price reduced to £999 – the lowest price it’s ever been available.

LG C1 | RRP: £1,099 (55in)

Like the LG C2 above, the LG C1 is a stunning TV. So much so that we gave it a 2021 TV of the Year award. It can hold a place in the hearts of any game addict, movie buff or boxset binger thanks to its detailed, accurate OLED screen that looks great from any angle. This is another TV with 4K resolution and a refresh rate of 120Hz, along with support for Variable Refresh Rate and Auto Low Latency modes that make it a popular choice with next-gen gamers. LG’s webOS is a joy to use compared to many other smart platforms and we expect to see the C1 fare more competitively on Black Friday. The 55in model dropped to £899 earlier this year but has slowly gone back up in price, so we’ll keep our eyes peeled to see if it drops below that figure in the coming weeks.

Samsung AU9000 | RRP: £529 (50in)

While big discounts on pricey TVs are always eye-catching, Black Friday also sees cheaper models get decent price cuts. Our budget favorite for 2021 was the Samsung AU9000 and it’s an option that has received generous discounts during past deals. Its “AirSlim” design is very attractive, and both SDR and HDR picture quality are impressive for a TV of its price. We found the input lag to be very low, while the Auto Low Latency and Various Refresh Rate modes found on more expensive competitors show that the quality of a 4K TV set for gaming doesn’t need to cost an arm and a leg.

Currently, you’ll get the 50in version for £529 and it looks like this will drop further during the Black Friday sale. It’s also worth keeping an eye on the deals for 2021 stablemates, the AU7000 and AU8000 series, as well as this year’s Crystal UHD options: the BU8000 and BU8500.
