The cheapest TV on Amazon – is it good?

Amazon’s Black Friday TV deals seem to get cheaper and cheaper every year, so much so that you can literally buy a smart TV for under $100 right now. They tend to be cheap brands or your brand’s flagships, but we’re always amazed at how cheap a retailer can be on Black Friday.

We haven’t reviewed this here at TechRadar, but we can give you our honest opinion, based on the fact that we test dozens of TVs each year.

So, our first impressions are that this show is like that small (like the size of a computer monitor) but really well presented for the money. The biggest feature of this show is that it has Amazon Fire TV built-in, so you don’t have to pair it with a Fire TV Stick or equivalent to have full access to all the best streaming services or to be compatible with Echo devices. It’ll work right out of the box and have you streaming Amazon Video or Netflix in no time – and it’s small enough to fit on almost any desk or table.

What we don’t like is the 720p resolution. On display in 2022 – even if one is 24 inches – it’s too small. The $99 32-inch version features the same 720p resolution as well, which will look worse on a larger screen size.

For our money, if you can afford it, we’d recommend choosing a larger display like this:

This 43-inch Amazon display has the same Fire-TV smart features as the cheaper Insignia but with a much-improved 4K resolution. It also supports HDR 10, HLG, and Dolby Digital Plus for better overall picture quality.

Our recommended TV retailers at a glance…

There are a lot of bad Black Friday deals already this year, and TVs in particular are a hotly contested area among the big names.

While we’ll be covering all the highlights here, I thought I’d give a quick review of recommended vendors so you know what to look for.

Amazon and Walmart are great for cheap TVs

We can recommend both Amazon and Walmart as great retailers if you’re on a budget this Black Friday. Both are widely featured in small-sized stock for less than $99 — most of which are brand-name options with built-in streaming features.

These displays aren’t top-of-the-line, and as you can imagine, lack the bells and whistles of most $500 displays, but they’ll let you watch Netflix or Amazon Video on a budget and be easy to set up. .

In particular, check out Amazon’s ‘Fire TVs’, which are versions of the standard TCL and Insignia models in the sub-$500 price range.

Best Buy and Samsung – perfect for premium TVs

The big Black Friday TV shopping list includes some really, really big savings on high-end displays from top brands like LG and Sony. Overall, you won’t find lower prices anywhere else so it’s worth checking out this retailer if you’re on a budget for something like the LG C2 OLED – which is our favorite TV here at TechRadar.

Samsung itself is a fantastic seller if you have $500 to $1,000 to spend on something decent but not too expensive. This excellent range of QLED displays sits within the budget range and the official store offers year-round low prices now.

Connect 2022 Insignia 32-inch smart Fire TV – because it’s 44% off!

Looking for a TV under 100 for Black Friday? We got you. This is the 2022 model that was $179.99 but is now $99.99. (opens in a new tab) – $80 off, on Amazon.

The 24-inch model has also dropped, to $79.99 (from $89.99, an 11% savings) and we told you about it before, but the 32-inch screen real estate is only 20 additional confirms its post, we think ‘I agree…

It’s not the Insignia model we tested, but we should note that 1080p is the most used HD TV format today (known as Full HD), surpassing 720p – and this TV only has a resolution of 720p, HD normal.

To clarify: 4K (Ultra HD) is a new format, with a higher resolution than 1080p. But on a screen as small as a 32-incher, you’ll need an eagle’s eye to notice the difference all those pixels can make given the 65-inch screen it’s going to shine on.

Our advice? It’s a little too much for the guest bedroom before the holiday season…

A 4K Vizio for under $300

Sticking with inexpensive sets, Vizio’s V-Series models are among the ones we’d recommend keeping an eye on this Black Friday, and this 43-inch Vizio V-Series TV deal at Walmart for just $268 is a great example.

Although the V series is a budget range, these 4K TVs are surprisingly full, offering Dolby Vision IQ and HDR10 + high dynamic range support, full range LED backlight, Bluetooth headphone output for private listening, control remote given voice, and third. total HDMI 2.1 ports. Definitely worth checking out if you’re on a budget.

Big screens on a budget

Over the past few years, we’ve had big screen TVs become more affordable and affordable and we’re at the point now where we have some great options that don’t break the bank. Here are a few key trends we saw at Best Buy.

This first option is a very expensive Insignia display – which just happened to be clear from the dealer. What we love about this is that you not only get a decent display but one of the best media platforms in the form of Fire OS built-in. Pairing this with a cheap Amazon speaker (like the Echo Dot for $14.99) is a great way to start your smart home setup on a budget.

Our two highlighted Black Friday TV deals at Best Buy are a bit pricey, but they’re a good price if you want a decent screen-sized display.

The TU690T display has a rock solid set of features, and a fast processor to boost resolution. Sure, it will lack the brightness of Samsung’s popular QLED displays (it’s an LED display), but it comes in at a fraction of the price and gets you all the functions of a smart TV to boot. Definitely worth a look for around $300.
