Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot took a swipe at the Bharatiya Janata Party on Monday, claiming that Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah have been regular visitors to Gujarat, in a poll, amid fears of the ruling party that it will be deleted.
Gehlot – whose nomination for the Congress presidential election made headlines last month – told news agency ANI that the visits betrayed the “weak condition” of the party; this comes as the BJP seeks to extend its 27-year hold on the chief minister’s home state.

Modi and Shah (and Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath) will campaign in Gujarat today in a high-octane campaign that will also see Congress MP Rahul Gandhi and Delhi Chief Minister and Party leader Aam Aadmi, Arvind Kejriwal.
“Since they won the UP polls, PM-Amit Shah started coming here (Gujarat) regularly. It means they feel that BJP is gone. What does it mean if they come here every week? It shows their weak condition. So, both of them. establish a camp here,” Gehlot said.

In the Congress campaign, Gehlot claimed that Gandhi would cover Gujarat as part of the party’s Bharat Jodo Yatra. “Rahul Gandhi conducts the yatra for every state, including Gujarat. Every family knows the issues that have been raised by him. It was not possible for him to be here physically as he gives priority to yatra. He came here today, he will speak his mind. lie…”
The Rajasthan chief minister also hit out at the BJP over the bridge collapse in Morbi district last month – in which 135 people were killed – and said the state government’s “politics of tricks” prevents any fair and thorough investigation into the incident.
“People (of Gujarat) are agitated. The whole country has seen mismanagement during Covid, especially in the state which was strong even before independence…”
Gujarat will vote in two phases – on December 1 and 5. The votes will be counted on December 8, along with those from Himachal Pradesh – another state that the BJP is widely expected to retain.
