Popular machines; Respect; Vision
Vizio first made a name for itself by offering TVs at affordable prices. In recent years, however, they have risen to compete with other products in their category as well. The likes of Sony and Samsung may make some of the best TVs on the market, but it’s hard to beat Vizio for value. And while they still offer inexpensive TVs, they now make excellent OLED sets that cost less than their competitors. So if you’re looking for a new TV (or adding a second TV), Vizio is a great brand to consider if you don’t want to break the bank.
Vizio TVs are perfect
What to consider
TVs come in many sizes and price points these days, and there are many features to consider. But since we’re only talking about Vizio TVs here, that helps narrow the field considerably. All Vizio TVs use the Smartcast streaming platform and come with the company’s WatchFree app that includes 150 free channels. And the company has divided its offerings into five series: D, V, M, P, and OLED, and each is higher quality then (and more expensive). So if you know your budget and the size you want, your choice is almost made for you. That said, there are a few things you’ll want to consider before making your purchase.
Size
While you may be tempted to buy the biggest TV you can afford, there is actually a science to choosing the right size TV. (And you may want to spend your dollars on picture quality rather than just downloading real estate.) As a rule of thumb, your TV’s size should be half the viewing distance. So if your sofa is going to be 10 feet (120 inches) from the TV, you should get a 60” TV. A TV that’s too big can overwhelm your room, while one that’s too small won’t give you the perfect viewing experience.
Image Quality
With Vizio offering 4K TVs at special prices, you probably won’t consider their D-series 1080p TVs unless you want a small, inexpensive TV as a second TV. But other factors besides resolution (like HDR) contribute to image quality. You’ll generally get what you pay for, and if you’re on a budget, OLED will provide much better quality than an LED set.
The game
If you plan to use your TV for gaming, you’ll want to make sure your TV is equipped to handle it. First, look for a refresh rate of 120Hz (versus 60Hz), which will help reduce lag time. Many of the Vizio sets we recommend come with features optimized for gaming, such as AMD FreeSync, which helps ensure smooth gameplay.
