Manesar

Manesar in Haryana. Besonica Mazdoor Union organizes a Mazdoor Kisan Panchayat from 10 pm to 3 pm at Gurgaon District Collectors Office to protest the Modi government’s anti-people policies and pro-capitalist designs of the rulers.

Bharatiya Kisan Union (Ugrahan) President Joginder Singh Ugrahan was present along with leaders of other farmers’ organizations. Workers organizations from Gurgaon and Uttarakhand also joined. Inter-Arc workers in preparation for a mini-maha panchayat in Uttarakhand a few days ago. Inkilabi Majdur Kendra has also contributed considerably through ideological-political campaigns. Workers of cloth labor union, Interarch workers of Uttarakhand, Hitachi contract workers and workers of Aisan also participated.

Belsonica Union Secretary Ajit Singh explained the objectives of the Mazdoor Kisan Panchayat and described the objectives of the four labor laws introduced by Narendra Modi and why it was imperative to repeal them.

Ajit explained the management’s strategy to break the backbone of organized labor movement by setting up contract labor system, laying off old workers, bringing in new batch of trainees and breaking trade unions. Unemployment has risen to unprecedented levels, with all permanent workers replaced by contract or poorly employed workers.

Ajit describes how workers and peasants fought against a common enemy and their struggles cannot be seen in isolation from each other. He said it was imperative that it link the issues and build unity in the struggle on a common front. Both classes have been equally victimized by government policies.

The time has come for the workers and farmers to challenge the wrath of capitalism and to mount a national level agitation and ground level preparatory campaign to build a collective organization against the ruling BJP.

Ironic on November 14 last yearmMazdoor Kisan Panchayat held a similar programme, in which workers participated in large numbers.

Over the past few days, the Belsonica Union has undertaken meticulous preparations to stage the Panchayat through leafleting, postering and social media like Facebook. It turned out to be effective. The methods they have taken to combine are most complementary.

We must remember that it is complex and challenging to unite workers and farmers on a common platform considering the differences in culture, outlook, production methods etc. This gap must be narrowed through consistent, painstaking ideological work. Mere mobilization can never be a substitute for grassroots work.
