On Wednesday, residents reported that although the leakage in the pipeline has been fixed, waterlogging on the roads has caused problems for commuters.
Residents pointed out that the problem started three days ago when leakage in the master water supply line from the Basai water treatment plant, which supplies water to several parts of Gurgaon, caused flooding. Vehicles had difficulty crossing the short stretch of about 500 meters – from Basai flyover to Dwarka Expressway – with no visibility of the road surface.
“The road was already bad and with waterlogging it has become dangerous for commuters. Smaller vehicles were getting stuck in potholes and in some cases two-wheelers were falling and getting injured,” said Prem YadavA resident of Basai.
The road that connects Gurgaon to Jhajjar, Rohtak, Bhiwani and other areas carries heavy traffic. “The road is an entry and exit point of Gurgaon city but still no one has taken any trouble to improve the condition of the road,” said Suresh Kumar, another resident.
Chief Engineer of GMDA Rajesh Bansal He said, the road is not under their jurisdiction. “The water supply line is under our jurisdiction and we fixed the leak on Wednesday,” Bansal said.
A PWD official said that only a portion of the stretch is under their jurisdiction and the rest under NHAI. The official did not have any explanation as to why no initiative was taken to repair the road which was in poor condition for a long time.
Gurgaon Deputy Commissioner Nishant Yadav said the matter has been brought to his notice and he has asked the PWD official to fill the potholes immediately to level the road.
“PWD officials have been asked to fill potholes and level the roads,” said Yadav.
