A SEX offender who was found with two devices that he failed to report to the police escaped from prison.

After police went to Luke Vigus’ home, the court heard, officers found a laptop and tablet he had taken from a friend.

The 29-year-old Barrow man was banned from using any electronic devices without notifying police under a sexual harm prevention order made earlier this year after indecent images of children were found.

Preston Crown Court was told Vigus, in Steamer Street, was being monitored by authorities under the order.

On July 23, police officers found him with his devices when they went to his home

In mitigation, the court was told Vigus had borrowed the devices for a short period of time and was using them “out of desperation” to keep in touch with his then partner.

He was trying to find work, the court was told, and there was “absolutely no evidence that he used the devices to access or search for indecent images”.

His lawyer said he cooperated with the police during the investigation and immediately handed over the devices to the police.

Sentencing him, Recorder Daniel Prowse said: “I am satisfied that you knew the terms of the order and were aware of all the devices you used, but you should have informed the police in the short time.

“You have pleaded guilty, which means you are sorry for your crime.

“I think it was a deliberate decision not to inform the police.

“I don’t accept that you don’t know that using them for a short period of time doesn’t mean reporting them to the police.

“But I’m thankful there was no harm or trouble.”

He said there was a realistic prospect of rehabilitation and sentenced Vigus to prison for two months, suspended for 12 months.

The judge ordered Vigus to complete 15 rehabilitation days and fined him £120 for the public order offence.

Vigus was also ordered to complete a drug rehabilitation program.
