If you’ve been on the fence about Apple’s latest 11-inch iPad Pro, now’s a good time to give it a second thought. Amazon currently has an entry-level 128GB model with WiFi for $729. Although it is still expensive, this model was released only a few weeks ago. Also, keep in mind that the deal only applies to the Silver model.

This new iPad Pro 2021 is slightly upgraded from its predecessor. Powering it is Apple’s updated M2 chip—the silicon inside the latest MacBook Air and 13-inch MacBook Pro. The new chip makes the tablet a bit snappier than the last model, enabling multitasking, media editing and the most demanding games.
The 2022 iPad Pro also adds a new scrolling feature that lets you hold the second-generation Apple Pencil over the screen to preview inputs and effects. While this alone isn’t reason enough to upgrade, it’s an interesting detail that could become indispensable when software developers adapt their apps to it. The high-end tablet also supports WiFi 6E and Bluetooth 5.3.
If you have a 2021 iPad Pro, this is not the generation to upgrade to. The M2’s chip and hover feature are welcome additions, but everything else is unchanged from last year’s model. That includes the screen, chassis, cameras, and battery—a minor upgrade to a tablet that’s overkill for most people’s iPad workflows.
Still, this model is the company’s top-of-the-line 11-inch model and an impressive hybrid device, including the Magic Keyboard. Additionally, the M2 chip works seamlessly with Stage Manager, Apple’s response to persistent criticism that iPadOS software doesn’t meet the modern demands of iPad hardware. Stage Manager lets you keep up to four applications open in a group with resizable, overlapping windows. While the multitasking feature still feels like a work in progress, we expect Apple to continue to tweak and refine it in future software updates.
If you’re thinking about upgrading from an older iPad Pro model to this model, this is your introduction to Center Stage. The feature uses machine learning to track your (and others’) faces during video calls in apps like FaceTime and Zoom. If you move to the side or go from sitting to standing, the frame will follow you. And if someone else enters the frame, he also goes outside to frame them.
If you want a bigger screen, Amazon also has a 12.9-inch model for $1,069, which is $30 less than what you’d pay at Apple. Although this price drop is small, that model’s screen is larger and more vibrant with mini-LED technology.
