Introduction
Anil Dhankar is one of the famous boxing coaches in India. He himself was a national level boxer and won several medals in national level competitions. After his boxing career ended in 1998, he obtained a diploma coaching degree from the National Institute of Sports (NIS), Patiala and started coaching Rohtak, setting up a center at his expense. Most of the funds were provided by Dhankar’s father, a retired banker. That was in 2003.
Anil Dhankar who worked as a teacher at Haryana Physical State Education Center then moved to Gurgaon and continued coaching at State Government Center of Excellence on Boxing. Dhankar recently returned to Rohtak. Amit Pangal, the Asian Games gold medalist and the first Indian boxer to win a silver medal at the World Boxing Championships, has produced the best Chhatra Dhankar ever. Along with Amit, Dhankar has produced several other international boxers in recent times. Currently, around 50 promising boxers, including boys and girls, train under Rohat.
Anil Dhankar’s wish
A biopic on Anil Dhankar, possibly India’s first biopic on a boxing coach, was slated to be filmed in 2019. Noted filmmaker Satish Kaushik who is also the chairman of Haryana Film Promotion Board finalized the film. Speaking on the phone from Rohtak, Dhankar said,
“I have asked the director to postpone the biopic. I want my biopic to be made after Amit returns from Paris Olympics in 2024 with a medal. It will be my dream moment when my best student shows the Olympic medal and then I will gladly ask the filmmaker to make a biopic on Amit too. My biopic will always be incomplete without my best student.

Anil Dhankar is the producer of Amit Panghal. He first saw Amit admitted to a boxing center in Rohtak when the boxer was about nine years old. Dhankar depicted,
“After admission to the centre, all students go through basic tests of strength, movement, endurance. Amit’s performance is the best and till date no boxer has touched Amit’s result sheet. He was simply emotional and that was the root cause of his unbridled emotional energy and aggression. Especially, when everything came to a standstill during the Covid-19 and lockdown period, Amit improved a lot by training hard at my Gurgaon centre.”

Medal chances
Anil Dhankar sounded optimistic when asked about the chances of how many medals Indian boxers could win at the 2024 Olympics in Paris. Anil commented,
“The preparations of the country’s medal hopeful boxers are going in the right direction. The Federation as well as the Government are fully encouraging them. So I am hopeful that Indian boxers will be able to bring more medals from the Paris Olympics.”
