A 17-year-old boy sustained gunshot wounds after an argument on social media turned violent in Ambala, police said on Tuesday.

The incident took place on Saturday night in Mahesh Nagar area after a Golu called his neighbors to the toll road at 10pm.

His friend Pawan of New Preet Nagar told the police that when they reached the spot, they found twelve men armed with stones.

“They started throwing stones at us as we ran for safety. Suddenly, the suspect opened fire on Sonu and Mukesh and the bullet hit one of our friends Sagar. We took him to the civil hospital from where he was admitted to PGIMER in Chandigarh,” he said in his statement.

Investigators said the argument stemmed from Instagram and turned into a fight between two groups.

Thirteen people have been charged with attempted murder under the Arms Act.

Mahesh Nagar station manager Ram Pal announced efforts to nab the culprits.

“The victim was admitted to a local hospital when he was brought back from Chandigarh after some tests. Two bullets were removed from his shoulder and back,” the officer added.
