Amazon India and TVS Motor Company on Wednesday announced an arrangement that will power the two- and three-wheeler maker’s e-commerce last-mile delivery.

The two companies will explore using electric vehicles (EV) for the network and logistics needs of Amazon’s various business groups. To test the solutions, the two companies will pilot TVS Motor’s EV solutions through a network of partners and service providers across India.

“The partnership marks another decisive step for Amazon to achieve our goal of becoming net-zero carbon by 2040, as part of our commitment to the Climate Change Commitment. E-commerce is an integral part of our business operations and we are committed to transforming our transportation network to serve our customers sustainably,” said Abhinav Singh, Director-Customer Fulfillment, Supply Chain and Global Specialty Fulfillment, Amazon India.

“Our partnership with TVS Motor strengthens our electrification network by adding electric two- and three-wheel drive to our existing vehicles. This will support our supply chain in reducing the environmental impact of our operations and contribute to Amazon India’s goal of importing 10,000 EVs into our fleet by 2025,” added Singh.

In 2020, Amazon India announced that it will include 10,000 EVs in its delivery fleet by 2025. This part of progress is all about the Climate Commitment – the commitment to achieve net-zero carbon by 2040, 10 years ahead of the Paris Agreement. The launch of these EVs is in addition to Amazon’s global commitment of 100,000 EVs by 2030. The partnership with TVS Motor Company is an important step in Amazon India’s progress in the e-mobility industry and in achieving its net-zero carbon goals.

Earlier this year, TVS and food delivery company Swiggy entered into a strategic partnership.

“We have always been at the forefront of electrification in this industry and have continued to focus on the two-wheeler and three-wheeler sector. We are delighted to partner with Amazon India, which marks a major milestone in our journey, and contribute to our shared goal of electrifying their mobility services,” said Manu Saxena, senior vice president, Future Mobility, TVS Motor Company.

The partnership with Amazon is also in line with TVS Motor’s aim to have electric vehicles across segments such as delivery, passenger and premium. The company will introduce a complete portfolio of electric two-wheelers and three-wheelers within eight quarters in the domestic and international markets. It will be more helpful in expanding and strengthening the company’s focus on presence in all major cities, charging solutions and other ownership models in India.

Local transportation players, delivery partners, vehicle operators, and EV stakeholders will be able to benefit from this comprehensive partnership as it provides a possible increase in the share of EVs in Amazon’s last-mile delivery, and gives them the opportunity to participate in TVS. Automotive manufacturing and service offerings in the commercial mobility sector.
