CHICAGO — The grave of legendary Chicago mobster Al Capone was vandalized last week in downtown Hillside.
The painting was found at 1 p.m. Nov. 23 at Mount Carmel Catholic Cemetery, where the Capone family is buried, according to Hillside police.

A photo originally posted on the History Chicago Instagram page shows the word “Evil” painted in red on Capone’s grave marker.
Police said the graffiti was removed the same day it was found, although the red paint remained on the cemetery as of Sunday afternoon.

No suspects have been arrested.
In 2021, Al Capone’s personal effects, including his favorite gun, were sold for more than $3.1 million. More than 1,200 applicants from all 50 states and many countries participated.
