According to Haryana State Pollution Control Board (HSPCB) officials, the air quality may remain in the upper range of ‘poor’ or fall to the lower end of the ‘very bad’ category in the next two days. Temperatures and northwesterly winds bring pollutants into the region. The overall share of straw burning in PM2.5 fell from 19% to 17%.
Two of the city’s four monitoring stations – Teri Gram and Goalpahari – recorded ‘very poor’ AQI at 306 and 317 respectively. It was ‘poor’ in Vikas Sadan (253) and Sector 51 (271).
“The situation is under control and we have strengthened measures to ensure compliance with all norms under GRAP. But the drop in temperature can trap pollutants and slower winds will adversely affect their dispersion,” said HSPCB Regional Officer Kuldeep Singh.
Meanwhile, the minimum temperature in the city was 14.1 degrees Celsius, two degrees above the season’s normal. The maximum temperature was 27.5 degrees Celsius, two notches below normal.
Meanwhile in Delhi, air quality improved to ‘very poor’ category on Saturday. On Saturday, the AQI was 303 compared to 346 a day earlier. The city also recorded the lowest minimum temperature of the season — it was 12.6 degrees Celsius on Saturday, one degree below normal.
