A general observer at the Gujarat Assembly polls on Friday was removed from poll duty for posting a picture on his social media account.

Abhishek Singh, an IAS officer-turned-commissioner, has hit back after failing to do so in the Gujarat elections for his Instagram post announcing his announcement.

“I humbly accept the decision of the Hon’ble ECI. Although I believe there is nothing wrong with this post…It is not propaganda or propaganda,” he tweeted.

The Electoral Commission is said to have called his position a publicity stunt.

IAS Abhishek Singh’s salary has been transferred to IAS Krishan Bajpai, who has also been appointed Inspector General for other nearby constituencies, until an inspector general is appointed to replace Singh by ECI. Gujarat with 182 constituencies will go to polls in two phases on December 1 and 5.
