Mumbai: Former South African batting great AB de Villiers met legendary Indian cricketer Sachin Tendulkar on Monday.

De Villiers took to Instagram to share his reaction before and after meeting Sachin, who he said is someone he “looks up to”. “I’m bottled up with excitement waiting to meet @SachinTendulkar. He’s always been someone I look up to. The way he carried himself on and off the field on game days was nothing short of incredible! Nothing has changed since his retirement and he’s still with me. Inspiring millions of people around the world,” de Villiers said in his Instagram post.

To this, Tendulkar responded on Instagram, “Back to you @abdevilliers17 the feeling is mutual my friend. Sitting in the next room… ready to go… waiting for the umpires to walk the field. See you soon. !”

After his meeting, de Villiers shared his experience with his fans, saying that while interacting with Tendulkar, he “just listened and took it all in.”
“So I spent a few hours with this guy today. Thought I’d interview him, but ended up just listening. What an experience. Thanks for your time “Master Blaster” @sachinintendulkar,” De Villiers said in his post.

While it is still unclear what led to the meeting and what will come out of it, the sighting of the two cricketing greats pleased fans, who took to social media to respond to de Villiers’ post.

“Two goats in one frame! This batting pair will be illegal in cricket!” commented a fan.
“Two legends,” said another fan.

“Miss you both legends,” another fan added with the comment.
“Two legends in one frame,” read another comment from a fan.
It may be noted that De Villiers was recently in Bangalore. His presence led to speculation about his return to RCB in some capacity.

“I’m here to chat with the RCB guys for next year’s IPL,” de Villiers said in a video posted by the franchise on November 3.
De Villiers is also an RCB Hall of Famer. He represented the team in 157 matches from 2011-2021. He scored 4,522 runs at an average of 41.10. He scored two centuries and 37 fifties for the team at a strike rate of over 158.

Sachin is also the ‘icon’ of the five-time IPL champion Mumbai Indians.
Both players have an international cricket resume to boast of.

In 664 international matches, Tendulkar scored 34,357 runs at an average of 48.52. 100 centuries and 164 half-centuries came from his bat, with a personal best score of 248*.

De Villiers also played 420 international matches, scoring 20,014 runs at an average of 48.11. The batsman scored a personal best of 278* with 47 centuries and 109 half-centuries. (ANI)
