To promote amateur cricket and give budding talent a chance to excel on the world stage, the AB de Villiers-backed Last Man Stands (LMS) on Tuesday launched a franchise-based India Super League 2023 to be held early next year.
The first edition of The Last Man Stands (LMS) India Super League 2023, touted to be the world’s largest amateur T20 cricket league, will be held in New Delhi between March 17 and 22, 2023.
South African cricket legend and former Royal Challengers Bangalore star AB de Villiers is the Global Ambassador for LMS.

The franchise-style cricket tournament for amateurs, held annually, will provide a unique opportunity for up and coming cricketers from across India, including Tier 2, 3 and 4 cities and rural areas, to showcase their talent alongside the larger Indian players. Organizer LMS gave this information at a press conference in the city on Tuesday.
Each franchise-owned team will be allowed a squad of 11 players. The winning team will represent India at the Last Man Stands World Champs in Cape Town, South Africa in December 2023. World Champions sees a significant number of global teams compete each year to win the title of best LMS team in the world. , has been added to the release.
The matches of the tournament will be telecast live with commentary and are expected to attract new viewers and high viewership from countries like India, South Africa, Australia, New Zealand, England, Scotland, Bangladesh, Pakistan, Singapore, Sweden and USA. The LMS league already has a presence.
Last Man Stands has specially designed an innovative game format with exciting new rules and a global ranking system. Its unique T20 format consists of 2-hour games with eight players per side, allowing upcoming players to participate and get a taste of the professional modern day cricket game.
“This is an amazing initiative. It gives amateur players a chance to perform globally. So, I think, if I wasn’t an international player, it would have been a perfect platform for me to come and show my skills. It will be streamed globally, and there was no opportunity for amateurs to play in front of a crowd and stream live globally,” former South Africa Test captain de Villiers said here on Tuesday.
He hoped to see some amateur players in big leagues like IPL one day in future.
“Maybe some of them will enter the IPL one day, who knows, through scouting. Some of these players may come in as coaches. It’s exciting. I want to be involved, see these names in IPL in future. Another thing that’s cool is that small towns mix with big cities – cities I’ve never heard of are going to be involved in this tournament. I will watch some of these games live and hopefully, I will whisper something to the RCB coaches to watch the spinner or the opening bat. So, it’s very exciting for me,” said de Villiers.
Among the 24-city-based franchisees, LMS has sold nine non-tender franchises so far and expects to get owners for the rest soon.
