A thief was arrested after a neighbor saw him steal two 49″ TVs and 30 Xbox games.
Police were called to the incident after a man was seen stealing two wall-mounted televisions, a DVD rack with about 30 Xbox games, an Xbox One games console and a red circular saw around the house.
The neighbor told the homeowner that someone was at his home, prompting him to call the officers who arrived but the intruder had already left.
During the incident which took place on the 31st of May in Lime Avenue, Wisbech, the suspect again opened the window of a VW van which was on the road, before taking a small television.
Reviewing the neighbor’s video, neighborhood police identified the suspect as Mark Colman, 23, of Westfield Road, March, who they had seen in the area while responding to an emergency call.
Passing the information on to other members of their group, Colman was found nearby and arrested after a foot chase.
Colman initially denied charges of burglary and being in a car and appeared at Peterborough Crown Court on Tuesday 8 November, but changed his plea and was sentenced to 621 days – around a year and eight months – in prison.
Detective Constable Stefan Karanja, who investigated, said: “Burglary can have a devastating effect on our community, often leaving people feeling unsafe in their homes after intruders enter their properties.
“This was a great response by the neighborhood police team who were in the area and were able to take quick action, which resulted in Colman being arrested not far from the scene.”
