In the long-running battle between TikTok’s creators and its bold tipping practices, a video of one creator tipping an iPad at a Starbucks location is resonating with viewers.

In the video, which has more than 397,000 views, TikTok creator @willowagainstwillows says he was given an iPad to get a tip at Starbucks.

“Today is the day I’ve been dreading for a long time,” reads the video’s text overlay. “At Starbucks today, they handed me a tablet from the window and asked me if I wanted to leave a cup of tea.”

Like @willowagainstwillows you charge me $8 for a coffee but can’t pay your workers enough?! that’s why i always chose stars over dutch#starbucks #fyp ♬ My Heart Will Go On (Titanic) – Malihe Saidi & Faraz Taali

The TikToker elaborated on his criticism in the caption of the video: “Like you charge me $8 for a coffee but you can’t pay your workers enough?! That’s why I always chose the stars over the Dutch.’

Some viewers objected to the idea that baristas should not be tipped, pointing out that they make their own drinks.

“Some of my baristas can’t buy groceries, but you’re complaining about the OPTION to tip?” wrote a comment. “Have a rest.”

“You’d be surprised how many people are upset we don’t have the ability to give advice but no one takes it personally,” wrote another.

“No, I can tip the baristas because they make your drink,” said another. “It’s different when it’s like an American eagle or an eagle.”

Others expressed strong support for tipping their baristas and other service staff.

One user commented, “I’m really out of the loop, but I work in food service and always drink tea for my coffee.”

“I always tip,” wrote another. “Working class empathy I guess.”

“I understand it’s expensive, but to be fair, if you go to a regular coffee shop, tipping is normal and they’re doing the same thing,” wrote another.
