GURUGRAM: Residents are starting to feel the chill and bring out their winter clothes as temperatures start to drop in the morning and evening hours. According to IMDThe mercury level will drop by 2-3 degrees Celsius over the next few days, while the minimum temperature may touch 11 degrees Celsius by Thursday.
Monday night’s temperature touched 14.2 degrees Celsius, slightly higher than the previous day’s record of 13.4 degrees Celsius.
Meteorologists attributed the cloudy weather to a western depression and prevailing warm and humid southeasterly winds.
However, with the passage of the weather system, cold northwesterly winds blowing over the region will lead to a drop in temperature in the coming days.
The minimum temperature during the first 10 days of this month was between 16 and 19 degrees Celsius. However, the downward trend of mercury has been observed in the last few days due to the onset of winter season.
“We have been witnessing a downward trend in temperature for the past few days due to cold northwesterly winds blowing over the region. On Monday, there was a slight rise in temperature due to westerly squalls and a change in wind direction to southeast, which is warm and humid. But it will start decreasing gradually and may touch 11 degrees Celsius by Thursday,” said Chandigarh IMD Director Manmohan Singh.
The maximum temperature recorded on Monday was 30.8 degrees Celsius, higher than the 27.7 degrees Celsius recorded on Sunday.
It was two notches higher than normal.
According to the IMD forecast, the sky will remain mostly clear on Tuesday with chances of fog in the morning.
The minimum and maximum temperatures are expected to be around 14 and 27 degrees Celsius respectively.
