US media sanctions Iran

The spokesman of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Iran criticized the US sanctions against the Islamic Republic of Broadcasting officials and journalists. Nasser Kan’ani says this is another example of flagrant violation of Iranian people’s rights by the US. Kan’ani says the US is preventing the views of the Iranian people from being heard around the world. He says this while allowing terrorist networks and media to carry out evil actions against Iran. According to an Iranian official, this shows that the US has no plans to end its crimes in independent countries. The US sanctions target the head of the Islamic Republic of Iran Broadcasting and its deputy International Services, which doubles as the head of Press TV. The European Union and Canada have imposed sanctions on Press TV. The sanctions are part of broader sanctions targeting Iranian officials and organizations for alleged human rights abuses following the unrest in Iran. Tehran strongly rejected those claims and condemned the ban as a clear example of interference in the country’s internal affairs.

The Saudi blockade of Yemen

The Saudi-led war continues to take a toll on Yemen and the country’s Ministry of Health says more than 80 newborns are losing their lives each day. The Ministry says that almost 40% of Yemeni children are born prematurely each year, which marks a significant increase compared to the pre-war period. Yemeni media say the lack of medical supplies and the use of weapons banned internationally by the Saudi-led coalition are the main reasons for the premature births. Riyadh and its allies launched a devastating war in Yemen and a blockade in 2015 with the aim of restoring friendly rule there. Yemen is currently suffering from the worst crisis in the world. Earlier this week, a Yemeni health official blamed the Saudi war and siege for the spread of diseases and infections, including malaria.

A US base in Syria has been attacked

The US military says one of its bases in northeastern Syria has come under rocket attack. The US military says rockets targeted the Green Village base near the Iraqi-Syrian border on Thursday. The army says there were no damage or injuries. The US military is also investigating the incident. Attacks on US military bases in the region, mainly in Iraq, have increased over the past few years as anti-American sentiment has risen. Those feelings began to rise after the US killed Iranian general Qassem Soleimani in Iraq in January 2020.
