It seems that the disagreement between the federal government and the union of the academic staff of the university, asuu on the payment of half the salary to university lecturers can snowball into another industrial action.

The Minister of Education says that the federal government will not be required to pay for work not done.

The minister was speaking at the end of this week’s federal executive council meeting chaired by President Muhammadu Buhari.

The federal Government is sticking to its guns and insisting on the “no work, no pay” policy it has adopted against members of the university’s academic staff union, ASUU.

The government says that there will be no salary for university professors in the period in which they will not work.

The federal government is coming despite the protest of Members of the Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU, to express their dissatisfaction with the invocation of the “no work, no pay” policy of the Federal Government.

The Minister of Education Adamu Adamu remarked on the position of the government on Wednesday after the weekly meeting of the Federal Executive Council in Abuja while fielding questions from state house correspondents.

Adamu also denied claims that the federal government plans to casualize university workers.

The Federal Executive Council has also approved over five billion naira for the printing of sensitive and non-sensitive materials for the National Examination Council (NECO).

The Council also approved another 3.2 billion naira for the perimeter fencing of the Usman Danfodiyo University in Sokoto State.

The Council has approved over two billion naira for the purchase of operational vehicles for the Federal Road Safety Corporation (FRSC).
Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity Femi Adeshina disclosed that the contracts for the vehicles were given to local auto manufacturers.

The issuance of the No Work No Pay policy by the Federal Government against members of the Academic Union of Universities, ASUU, has become another sticking point between the union and the Federal Government despite the suspension of the 8-month Industrial Action of the Union.
