WhatsApp has started testing a new feature for mobile phones that web users should already be familiar with.
According to WABetaInfo, the latest beta version of WhatsApp (version 2.22.24.18) is testing a new companion mode for smartphones. This opens up the possibility of attaching an Android tablet, as noted by Android Police. In this test build, WhatsApp beta users can go to the registration screen and look for the “Link Device” option from the three-dot menu.
WhatsApp adds the ability for users to link another phone to their primary device. The link was initially teased as syncing your chat history across multiple smartphones, and we’re seeing it emerge via a new experimental build. Linking your WhatsApp account to another phone or tablet using the beta version will sync your chat history.
Private messages and calls are still supported by WhatsApp’s end-to-end encryption, even if you’re using your account on another linked phone.

Through in-app instructions, the Meta-owned messaging app guides users to download the app to their other devices and scan a QR code with their primary phone to properly connect the new device.
However, there are a few features that are currently inactive in the beta test of this feature, such as viewing live locations and the ability to manage your playlists and stickers.
WhatsApp has set the linked device limit to four, so users will have to choose which phone or tablet to link to host their account in addition to their primary phone.
This add-on app feature has started rolling out to beta testers who downloaded WhatsApp beta for Android from the Google Play Store. More users should start getting it for testing in the coming weeks. WABetaInfo says that if you’re still not seeing this new feature as a beta tester, you’ll have to wait for an upcoming test.
