Nairobi – President William Ruto on Thursday announced that his administration is working to move about 90 percent of government services to digital platforms within a year.
President Ruto who was speaking at a Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MPME) round table forum said the digitization of government services will ensure citizens access services in the comfort of their homes.
The president said this move will also ensure ease of doing business as citizens will be able to access their licenses online.
“We have about 15 percent of government services in the digital platform, and we want to make sure that between six and 12 months we will have moved 90 percent of government services to the digital platform,” he said.
President William Ruto also announced that Kenya will make the cheapest smartphone in Africa in a year, which will cost less than five thousand shillings.
The President said having an affordable smartphone will ensure that all Kenyans can access digital platforms for business and access government services.
He noted that they are already working with the telecommunications sector in order to come up with a cheaper gadget that is able to do everything.
“Today the cheapest smartphone is between sh 10,000 and sh 15,000, we want to see .I want to promise the country that in the next 8 to 12 months we will have the cheapest smartphone in Africa, made in Kenya,” President Ruto said.
