Bandits have killed five people in Peva village, Kastina-Ala local government area of ​​Benue State.

Locals said the affected village in Kastina-Ala borders communities in Takum LGA of Taraba State.

They identified those killed to include an officer of the Community Volunteer Guards and four other people who were killed in a market in the area.

A villager, identified only as Antavee, told our correspondent on the phone that the bandits may have dragged the volunteer guard to a drinker in the market to allegedly give the security operatives information about their activities ( bandits).

He said: “The incident occurred in Peva community which borders Taraba State through Katsina Ala. An officer of the Community Volunteer Guardians known as Oliver was shot dead by the bandits alongside four others.

“We heard that the thugs were on his trail for a while because they accused him of being an informer of the security agent in the area.

“He (Oliver) was believed to be the target of the bandits. The bandits who were up to five arrived at a joint in the market, where Oliver was with four others, in a tinted vehicle.

“It was a market day and the bandits on seeing him opened fire on him and others at the watering hole and managed to kill him and four others. Many people were injured and are now receiving treatment in hospital. The bandits, however, escaped.

The Police Public Relations Officer, SP Catherine Anene, did not respond to calls or text messages sent to her mobile phone.
