Chintels: Gurgaon administration to demolish Chintel tower after IIT-Delhi finds structural deficiencies | Tech Reddy

The Haryana administration decided to demolish Chintel’s tower, nearly nine months after a building collapsed in one of its housing societies in Gurgaon, killing two residents.

IIT-Delhi on Saturday submitted the structural audit report of the tower and found structural deficiencies in the building. The report states that repairs are not possible and the tower will have to be demolished.

The investigation also revealed that the developer used poor quality of construction materials and the retrofitting work was also not done properly.

“The developer will have to settle the claim with the allottees of D-Tower and buyers will be given three options. Structural audits on Tower E and F are underway and reports will be forthcoming soon. Until then the builder will relocate the buyers and pay the rent,” said the Gurgaon administration.

The administration received complaints of structural deficiencies from 70 housing societies and ordered an audit of 16 societies.

The report will be available by November 15.

“Ever since the unfortunate incident, we have been and will continue to cooperate with the authorities and the affected residents in all possible ways,” Chintel Vice President JN Yadav said.

Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar directed the town and country planning department to identify dangerous buildings and conduct structural audits based on complaints received from resident welfare associations or any other body.

The state government has decided that apart from the structural engineers employed by the builders, the town and country planning department will also carry out structural audits by structural engineers enlisted by reputed government institutions or by them before issuing occupation certificates to a society.
